2 Police Generals and 8 Officers Urged to Take Leave Over P6.7B Illegal Drugs Cover-up
2 police generals and 8 police officers who were involved in the P6.7 billion illegal drugs cover-up are urged to take leave.
Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr., Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has requested 2 generals of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and eight other officials to take a leave of absence. They will not be suspended as a result of the suspected cover-up in the arrest of a police officer who was discovered with 990 kilograms of shabu in Manila in 2022.
Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo, director of the Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG); Col. Julian Olonan, chief of the PDEG-Special Operations Unit in Region 4A; Lt. Col. Arnulfo Ibaez, officer-in-charge of the PDEG-SOU in Metro Manila; and Lt. Col. Harry Lorenzo III, assigned to the Manila Police District, Moriones Station, is among those on leave.
Maj Michael Angelo Salmingo, deputy chief of the PDEG-SOU in Metro Manila; Capt. Jonathan Sosongco, head of the SOU-4A arresting team; Capt. Randolph Pion, chief intelligence section of the PDEG SOU 4A; Lt. Glen Gonzales, assigned to the Quezon City Police District; and Police Lt. Asgrap Amerol, PDEG intelligence officer, were also among those who requested leave.
Based on the report, Lt. Gen. Benjamin Santos, who retired this month, is one of those involved in the subject. Master Sgt. was also instructed to take time off. Lorenzo Catarata, Jerrywin Rebosora, Staff Sgt. Arnold Tibay, and Patrolman Gular.
He said that the supposed arrest of Police Master Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo, Jr in Manila in October 2022 after being discovered with P6.7 billion in illegal drugs was caught on tape. If the aforementioned cops do not comply with his instruction, they would be suspended, according to Abalos.
“All those in the video should take a leave of absence pending the investigation of the task force which I created to look into this. If not, we will be constrained to issue appropriate orders for their preventive suspension pending investigation,” stressed Abalos.
