Bongbong Marcos Reacts To End of Transport Strike

Pres. Bongbong Marcos Speaks on the Amicable End of Transport Strike

BONGBONG MARCOS – The Philippine President reacted to the end of the transport strike in the country before the set end of strike.

One of the programs of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is the modernization of public utility vehicles (PUVs) in the Philippines. Part of the move is the phasing-out of public vehicles that are at least 15 years old.

The government is pushing for an efficient and safer public transport for the commuters in the country as well as the protection of the natural environment. However, the move to modernize the public vehicles in the country did not gain all favorable responses. Many jeepney drivers are against it.

Recently, several transport groups united and held a transport strike to express their opposing stand against the modernization program of the government. They initially set a week-long transport strike which could greatly affect the commuters.

Meanwhile, just after two (2) days since the transport strike started, two (2) transport groups decided to resume their jeepney operations. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the move followed the meeting of the transport group leaders attended a meeting in Malacañang.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos announced that the deadline for the consolidation will be extended to December. He believe that it will pave the way for enough time to fix the system.

“Maganda ang aming usapan. Nag-postpone tayo [ng consolidation] hanggang December… Sa tingin ko sapat na panahon na yun para ayusin natin ang sistema sa pagpalit ng ating mga jeepney,” Pres. Bongbong Marcos said.

DOTr also announced an increase on the subsidy for jeepney drivers who will be shifting to modern jeepneys. You may visit – Subsidy for Modern Jeepneys To Be Raised to P260K, DOTr Confirms.
