The Philippine National Police (PNP) has called on parents to take a more active role in monitoring their children’s activities after a Grade 7 student was found carrying illegal drug paraphernalia and a knife inside a school in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
The incident happened on June 8, 2026 (Monday) the first day of classes, and immediately raised concerns about student safety and the influence of illegal activities on young people. School authorities discovered the prohibited items in the possession of the student, prompting officials to take action and coordinate with law enforcement.
According to reports, the student was brought to the barangay hall for proper handling and assessment. During questioning, the student explained that the knife and drug-related items allegedly belonged to a cousin and were only entrusted to him for safekeeping.
Authorities are now working to verify the claim as part of the ongoing investigation. PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stressed the importance of parental involvement in guiding children and helping them avoid situations that could place them at risk.
Nartatez emphasized that the responsibility of parents should not end at home but should also include awareness of their children’s daily activities, friendships, and behavior outside the household.
PNP ordered a thorough investigation to identify everyone who may be connected to the case. Authorities are also looking into how the prohibited items ended up inside the school and whether other individuals may be involved.
The local police units have been instructed to work closely with school administrators and local government officials to strengthen school security. The goal is to improve safety measures and create a more secure learning environment for students.
