PRESIDENT BONGBONG MARCOS – President Bongbong Marcos declares February 24 a special non-working day to celebrate the EDSA revolution anniversary.
Pursuant to the principle of holiday economics, Malacañang declares February 24, 2023, a special non-working holiday. The day to celebrate the EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary was moved from February 25 (Saturday) to February 24 (Friday).
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has declared February 24 a special non-working holiday in commemoration of the event that ousted his father in 1986. This year is the 37th anniversary of the revolution that ended the rule of President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. He ruled the country for over two decades and nine years of which put the Philippines under Martial Law.
In Proclamation No. 167, PBBM noted that this declaration will “enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend pursuant to the principle of holiday economics… provided that the historical significance of EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary is maintained.”
According to the pay rules of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the special non-working holiday is still covered by the “no work, no pay” principle “unless there’s a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
If an employee works on this day, he or she is to be paid an additional 30% of their daily rate for the first eight hours of work. While overtime will be paid an additional 30% of the workers’ hourly rate.
