Antique Isolated after Typhoon Paeng Damaged Bridges To Neighboring Provinces
ANTIQUE – The Provincial Government is calling for help after Typhoon Paeng damaged the bridges that connect to their neighboring provinces.
Severe tropical storm Paeng brought heavy rains and strong winds in several areas across the Philippines a few days ago. Several cities and municipalities were left in deep floodwater by the typhoon.
A lot of families lost their homes to the wrath of Typhoon Paeng. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), the Typhoon Paeng death toll has reached 122 with some 30 individuals still missing.
Many Filipinos are now staying in evacuation centers after they lost their homes to the typhoon. Assistance was extended to several typhoon victims but there are areas that the government agencies have yet to reach.
Currently, Antique is isolated after Typhoon Paeng damaged the bridges that connect it to its neighboring provinces, Iloilo and Aklan. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Governor Rhodora Cadiao is calling for help as they are now isolated.
The province is facing challenge with regards to the supply of the basic products including oil and oxygen tanks. The Governor said that there was a “state of panic” as the people lined up in gasoline stations but she assured them that there is still a good supply of the gasoline.
According to Gov. Cadiao, they are trying to reach the Office of the Civil Defense or they are going to rent a barge. Based on the report, there is also a need to ride pumpboats to get to other cities in Antique after Paliwan Bridge broke due to Typhoon Paeng.
Amid the situation, Laua-an Mayor Aser Baladjay is requesting the people to wait for the pumpboats from the local governments in crossing the river. Currently, two (2) people have died while two (2) are missing because they tried to cross the river amid the strong current.
