New DOH Undersecretary Camilo Cascolan, a former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, gave a message for President Bongbong Marcos.
The Department of Health has confirmed the appointment of former PNP Chief Camilo Cascolan as the health undersecretary. DOH also confirmed receiving the appointment papers of several others appointed to a position in the department. Recently, the new health undersecretary broke his silence on the appointment.
Based on a report on CNN, new DOH Undersecretary Camilo Cascolan expressed his gratitude to President Bongbong Marcos for the trust. He stressed that he is not a doctor but a person does not need to be a doctor to be assigned in the DOH. He believes that he will be a big part with regards to the administration and management which he referred as integral parts of every department. According to him, he might be able to contribute ideas regarding the COVID-19 protocols and other issues concerning health.

Personal Background
Camilo Pancratius Pascua Cascolan or also called “Pikoy” Cascolan was born on November 10, 1964 in Baguio (then Mountain Province). His educational background include some years at Maryknoll Convent School and the University of the Philippines Baguio High School. He initially wanted to become a priest but eventually entered the military as per his parents’ advice.
In 1982, Cascolan entered the Philippine Military Academcy. He graduated the PMA as part of Sinagtala Class of 1986. He took his masters degree in Public Administration at the University of the Philippines in 1995.
Military and Police Career
The first assignment of Camilo Cascolan after graduating was with the then-Philippine Constabulary Special Action Force of Central Mindanao. He was based in Parang, Maguindanao from July to December 1987. He also spent most of his junior and mid-level career in military as part of the 324th Public Company and Reconnaissance Company in Iloilo.
In April 1988, he was the aide-de-camp to the Western Visayas Regional Command. In May 1992, he started his law enforcement career which led him to several different positions in the police field. He has served as the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime chief of criminal investigation, research and special studies divisions in Camp Crame; member of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group; chief of Central Visayas Aviation Security Group (ASG) command; chief of Taguig City Police Station; finance chief of Davao Region Police Office; and provincial director of Compostela Valley amonth others.
In 2018, he was promoted to Chief of Directional Staff and got his 3-star rank. In 2019, he became the Deputy Chief for Administration. In September 2020, he was appointed as the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) under the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
