Jane de Leon received bashing due to her Darna role
Kapamilya actress Jane de Leon shared her thoughts on people who are questioning why the most-coveted Pinay superhero role, Darna, was given to her.
Jane surprised many showbiz fans, especially those who are anticipating the Darna project of ABS-CBN when she was named as the actress who will portray the superhero role. The announcement about this garnered mixed reactions.
Many people criticized her for getting the role and some questioned her ability to carry this big responsibility as an actress. Jane is aware that there were people who did not like her to be the new Darna. She has received bashing because of this major stint in her acting career.
In her recent guesting on Magandang Buhay, Jane de Leon admitted that at first she was affected by the bashing that she gets, as there were people asking why she got the role. The actress said that her mother knew about the effect of bashing on her. She said that at first, she did not know how to handle the negative comments.
However, Jane said that after years and months, she realized her bashers have a point. “Bakit nga ba ako ‘yung napili? Sa totoo lang, hindi ko rin po alam kung bakit ako po ‘yung napili,” the actress said. Then, Momshie Regine Velasquez said that she knows the reason behind this.
She said that back then, when Angel Locsin got the Darna role, she was not as famous prior to this stint and this goes also with other Darnas like Vilma Santos and Lorna Tolentino. The Songbird said that she thinks ABS-CBN chose a fresh face to be the Darna. “So tama lang na, bagong mukha ang maging Darna ngayon,” Regine said.
Jane de Leon’s mother shared that at first, the actress had a difficult time handling bashing because she was new to this. However, as a mom, she made her daughter feel that they are always there to support her.
