Maja Salvador is embracing her comic side
Actress Maja Salvador admitted that doing comedy is a breath of fresh air for her after doing several dramatic projects in the past.
Maja has been in the industry for two decades now and she is known for making her audience cry, get angry, and sympathize with her character. However, she is set to present a new flavor on the table – comedy. The actress, who is also known as the Queen of the Dance Floor, will have a new sitcom on TV5 titled Oh My Korona with RK Bagatsing as her leading man.
Doing her previous series Niña Niño which is a dramedy or drama-comedy, somehow prepared her for her sitcom. On the other hand, Maja admitted that she had to stretch some muscles for this genre. “I wanted to give my whole body a good shake because I felt so stiff. I thought to myself, ‘Eh paano nga ba mag-comedy?” Maja Salvador said during a recent interview, based on the article in Inquirer.
She said that doing Niña Niño was a big challenge for her because, for the past years, the audience has known her characters who always cry, scream and get angry. Her fun-loving personality behind the camera also helped her pull this off.
Maja related that on her first day doing the sitcom, she asked her director about her acting, if she looks stiff, or something like that. “I didn’t know you could briefly break character in a sitcom,” she shared and she saw how sitcom veteran Joey Marquez did.
The actress also said that it is a big thing that Joey is part of the show as he is one of the popular names in this genre. Joey was one of the cast members of Palibhasa Lalake which ran for 11 years. Aside from the tips that she gets from the seasoned comedian, Maja Salvador also shared how thoughtful Joey Marquez is. She said that the sitcom veteran is like a father to them on the set.
