Vhong Navarro Case – DOJ Will Follow CA’s Order Regarding The Cases

Here’s an update about the Vhong Navarro case that emerged again.

VHONG NAVARRO CASE – The Court of Appeals (CA) ordered the filing of charges against Vhong Navarro and the DOJ will follow the order.

In 2014, Kapamilya host Vhong Navarro got involved in an issue that left him severely injured. And the injuries he obtained involved model-stylist Deniece Cornejo. The controversy became a lengthy legal battle until 2018 and 2020 when the Department of Justice (DOJ) junked the charges.

The charges were filed by Cornejo but junked by the DOJ. First in 2018 due to a lack of probable cause and “major inconsistencies” and secondly, in 2020 because the encounter was accordingly consensual between them.

And in a previous article, the Court of Appeals (CA) ordered the filing of the charges again which the DOJ will be addressing. The DOJ will follow the order but Navarro’s legal counsel Atty. Alma Mallonga said that the ruling indicting the actor, her client, is not yet final.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said that they will obey. The justice secretary briefly responded, “We will obey the courts.”

Meanwhile, according to Navarro’s lawyer, they have not received the decision yet formally. But if they do, they would file a motion for reconsideration. She said based on a report from Manila Bulletin, “Ang ibig sabihin doon, hindi talaga final pa ‘yung decision ng Court of Appeals. Maaari pa niyang tignan ulit. ‘Yun ang aming imumungkahi, na tignan muli ‘yung petition.”]

“Beyond the Court of Appeals, may remedy pa ng petition for review on certiorari sa Korte Suprema kung sakali,” the lawyer added.

Meanwhile, in 2018, a Taguig court convicted Cedric Lee and Jed Fernandez of grave coercion that sentenced them up to 3 years and 6 months in prison. Cornejo was also convicted of the same crime.
