Former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez Speaks on Sen. Ping Lacson’s Claim on the Alleged Reason Behind their Shift of Support
PANTALEON ALVAREZ – The Partido Reporma President denied the claim of Senator Ping Lacson regarding the “campaign expenses”.
Less than two (2) months before the May 2022 Election, several political parties have pledged their support to certain candidates in the upcoming poll. There are 10 candidates vying for the presidency in the upcoming election.
Some national parties have united to support a single candidate in the upcoming poll. In the case of other national parties, there are factions. Recently, presidential candidate and incumbent Sen. Ping Lacson resigned from his post as chairman of Partido Reporma. His decision came amid rumors that the political party is backing the presidential bid of another candidate.
Shortly after Lacson announced his resignation as chairman of Partido Reporma, the party’s president, former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, announced that they are supporting the presidential bid of Vice Pres. Leni Robredo. The former House Speaker clarified that the decision covers the Davao del Norte chapter.
According to Alvarez, there is no question on the qualifications of Lacson but the public is not accepting his qualifications for the presidency citing the results of the survey. He also stressed that Vice Pres. Robredo embodies the aim of the party which is reform in the government and to give the Filipinos a better future.
Sen. Ping Lacson refuted the said claim of Partido Reporma Pres. Pantaleon Alvarez. According to him, the shift of support is due to his incapacity to give P800 million as additional funding to support the campaign of their local candidates.
Former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez junked the “campaign expenses” claim of Sen. Ping Lacson. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Partido Reporma President stressed that he never asked for funding to support the campaign of their local candidates. He also stressed that they can really fund their local candidates.
“Maybe he was referring to the funding requirements for the precinct watchers. There are two watchers per precinct because they will work in two shifts for a 24-hour duty. Normally, the minimum meal allowance per watcher is Php 1,000.00,” Alvarez said.
Vice Pres. Robredo’s camp also reacted to the claim of Sen. Lacson. Her spokesperson, Atty. Barry Gutierrez, stressed that they do not have P800 million and the support for the bid of the Vice President is tied on the hope that she can bring reform to the government and give the Filipinos a better future.
