Female College Student Expresses Frustration Over Alleged Unfair Scholarship Selection Process in PalawanÂ
A college student from Palawan has questioned the alleged unfair selection process used to choose the beneficiaries of a scholarship program.
A college student from Barangay Dumangueña in Narra, Palawan has raised concerns over what she believes was an unfair selection process for the beneficiaries of the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Scholarship Program 2026.
The program aims to help college students continue their education by providing financial assistance worth P20,000 to each scholar. Under the initiative, five students from every barangay are chosen to receive educational aid through the Local Government Support Funds.
Famela Nicor, one of the students from Barangay Dumangueña, expressed her disappointment over the way the selection was carried out. According to her, the barangay announced the scholarship program and informed students about the application process.
However, she claimed that students were not allowed to formally submit their documents and requirements for evaluation.
Nicor also questioned the method used to select the beneficiaries. She said the barangay conducted a draw of lots among individuals who were reportedly considered qualified for the program.
The selection process raised concerns among some students because they were unsure how the list of qualified applicants was prepared if their documents had not been collected or reviewed.
For many families, scholarships represent an important opportunity to ease the financial burden of higher education.
Meanwhile, officials of Barangay Dumangueña denied allegations of favoritism or irregularities in the selection process. The barangay leadership maintained that proper announcements were made and that the application procedures were communicated clearly to the public.

Barangay officials also stood by the integrity of the selection process, saying that all actions taken were conducted fairly and in accordance with the program’s guidelines. They stressed that the process was transparent and that they could provide proof supporting the steps they followed.
