Discovery Joins Other Mass Media Firms in Temporarily Stopping Broadcasts in Russia

Discovery IncDISCA.O joins several companies that halted their broadcasts and businesses in Russia amid its attack versus Ukraine.

The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has captured global attention and several countries have made their stand on the unfortunate incident. Many nations expressed condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Several civilians have reportedly died due to the attack of the Russian government on Ukraine. The country led by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is being called by several nations to stop. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his part stressed that he will not give up his country to Russia.

Amid the Russia-Ukraine war causing a lot of deaths of civilian people, several businesses decided to stop their operation in Russia as an expression of their condemnation of the country’s actions towards Ukraine.

Recently, another giant mass media company, Discovery IncDISCA.O, said that it will temporarily stop its broadcasts in Russia amid its attack on Ukraine. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, 15 of the mass media company’s entertainment brands including Animal Planet, HGTV, TLC, and Eurosport are distributed through Media Alliance which is a joint venture with the National Media Group of Russia.

Based on the report, prior to the decision made by Discovery, several giant corporations including BBC and CNN have announced the temporary suspension of their services in Russia. Furthermore, Netflix which is on a joint venture with the National Media Group also decided to suspend its services in Russia.

Fast-food chain McDonald’s also joined the businesses that will temporarily stop its operation in Russia. Meanwhile, the fast-food chain firm assured that they will continue to pay their employees amid the temporary closure of their restaurants.

Soft drink giants Coca-Cola and PepsiCo also announced that they will temporarily suspend the distribution of their products in Russia as they expressed support for Ukraine.
