McDonald’s Joins Businesses that Temporarily Closes Stores, Restaurants in Russia

MCDONALD’S – The American multinational fast food corporation will temporarily stop the operation of its restaurants in Russia.

Currently, there is a war between Russia and Ukraine and it is alarming several countries across the globe with the increasing deaths of civilians. Several nations expressed condemnation of Russia for invading Ukraine.

The tension between Russia and Ukraine have started several years ago and one of the issues is Ukraine wanting to be a member of Nato, a transatlantic alliance made for the protection of the Soviet Union. Russia does not want Ukraine to join the said alliance tagging the inclusion

According to Ukraine, it has already accepted that Nato is not prepared to have them as a member due to certain issues. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that he is willing for a dialogue with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin regarding the issues between their countries.

However, the tension between Russia and Ukraine recently led to a war that is causing the deaths of many people including civilians. Several countries expressed support for Ukraine amid the war and wants Russia to stop attacking the independent nation.

Several businesses most especially the giant ones also expressed their condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Soft drink giants Coca-Cola and PepsiCo are among those that announced the temporary halting of their businesses in Russia amid the war.

Recently, McDonald’s Corp. joined the list of businesses that are temporarily stopping their operations in Russia amid its war against Ukraine. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Several bodies including New York state’s pension fund have pressured big firms to stop their operations in Russia amid its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Despite the temporary closure of McDonald’s restaurants in Russia, the fast-food giant assured that it will continue to pay wages to its workers. There are 62,000 employees of the fast-food chain in Russia.
