Ping Lacson and Tito Sotto received warm welcome from Ilocanos
Senators Ping Lacson and Tito Sotto said that the “Solid North” for the presidential candidacy of former Senator Bongbong Marcos is untrue.
It has been a common notion in the political arena that provinces in the northern part of the Philippines are supporting the Marcos clan as this region is considered to be their bailiwick.
However, in a report from Inquirer, Ping Lacson and his running mate Tito Sotto said that they did not feel that there is a “Solid North”. It is because people in the Ilocos Region and Baguio City received them warmly.
Lacson said that they thought they will just receive rejection from the people in the said area but what they had was the opposite. “As you may be aware, ‘di ba ‘yung basta Ilocos Region, mostly, taga-region nila ‘yung tinatangkilik pero sa nakita namin kanina, maganda ‘yung response kasi nga issue-based naman ‘yung tinalakay namin na mga problema,” the presidential aspirant said.
Talking to the tricycle drivers, Lacson said that he wanted to test the reality of “Solid North”. He said that he got positive reactions from drivers. Sotto promised to tricycle drivers that if he and Lacson will be elected, they will address issues within the transportation sector and mainly on the oil price hike.
“Kaya eh, kung wala ba ‘yung P700 bilyon na ninanakaw, sa bulsa lang ng kung sino-sino napupunta, kayang-kaya ‘yung fuel subsidy… Kahit tumaas pa ang halaga (ng gasolina), hindi kailangan magtaas ng pasahe ang mga public transport kung sina-subsidize ng gobyerno ‘yung fuel,” the vice-presidential aspirant said.
Back in 2016, presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos despite losing against Vice President Leni Robredo still had a 1.4 million lead in the Ilocos Region. In a recent FB Live, VP Leni announced that she is set to conduct her campaign activities in provinces belonging to the “Solid North”.
