A complaint by a complainant issued by Letter of Authority on November 20, 2021 by BIR-RDO 19 indicating a tax discrepancy of P 4.5 million prompted the suspect’s detention. The complainant further stated that representatives from the BIR of Dipolog City phoned him and demanded P400,000.00 as payment for his tax debts.
He was also threatened with having his case submitted to their Regional Office in Zamboanga City if he did not cooperate with the requests. Aside from that, he’d have to pay P4.5 million in fines, based on the report.
The complainant went to the BIR office and saw Renan Hechanova and Benjie Sumalpong, BIR examiners. The complainant added that begged the two BIR examiners to grant him more time to furnish the needed funds.
Hechanova was apprehended in an entrapment operation conducted by the NBI-DIPDO, as a result. Robbery with violence against or intimidation of individuals, Anti-Graft and Practices Act, and Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees were all filed against the suspect.
