UN To Raise $6.5 Million To Help Typhoon Odette-Survivors in PH

UN Set to Help Survivors of Typhoon Odette

UN – The United Nations will raise $6.5 million to help the survivors of Typhoon Odette in the Philippines.

The Philippines was greatly affected by Typhoon Odette. Many families lost their homes to the massive flood and strong winds brought by the typhoon. It is one of the strongest typhoons to have hit the country on record.

Preemptive evacuations were done prior to the entry of Typhoon Odette in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). There were preparations but the typhoon’s strength still left many families homeless. Some houses were destroyed by the massive flood and the strong winds while others got hit by falling trees.

Many Filipino families now are temporarily staying in evacuation centers. They are in need of food supplies, water, and other basic needs. Many people also lost their source of living to the onslaught of the typhoon.

Foreign countries and organizations also vowed to help the Philippines. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, UN will raise $6.5 million for the survivors of the Typhoon Odette in the Philippines.

UN official Gustavo Gonzalez said that they will be launching the fund-raising campaign “at the local level with the international represented in Manila”. He stressed that there is a momentum for maximum support and the challenge is to make concrete actions to help the Philippines.

The money that the international organization wants to raise to help the Philippines targets to benefit 530,000 people in areas severely hit by the typhoon.
