In 2010, Teodoro ran for president but he lost to the late former President Noynoy Aquino. He believes that his presidential defeat was because it was really not his time to win.

Now, the former Defense Secretary is trying to make a political comeback. Initially, there were speculations and rumors that he is eyeing for the vice-presidential position with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as his running-mate. Prior to the filing of candidacy period, the former Defense Secretary was spotted visiting Davao City.

During the period set for the filing of candidacy, former Defense Sec. Gibo Teodoro filed his candidacy for senator. Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte filed her candidacy for re-election but, later on, withdrew it and decided to run for vice president. She is running under Lakas-CMD, the political party of former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, former Defense Sec. Gibo Teodoro running for senator and not vice president is the decision of his political party, People’s Reform Party. He stressed that it is based upon consultation with his allies.

“Ito po ang kanilang naging desisyon at desisyon din po ng aking partido na inaniban ko,” the former Defense Secretary said.

Many people have pledged their support to Teodoro on his senatorial bid. Aside from being a political aspirant, he is a lawyer and a business executive. He served as the chief of the National Defense from 2007 to 2009 under the term of former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
