Why Bong Go is not yet withdrawing formally?
Senator Bong Go already announced that he will withdraw his candidacy for president, however, he has not yet withdrawn formally.
Days have passed, the presidential candidate of Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), which is an ally of the ruling party PDP-Laban,” has been hinting about backing out. Go said that his mind and heart do not go along with his decision to file his certificate of candidacy for president.
Following that sort of cryptic statement, just recently, the close ally of President Rodrigo Duterte said that he will indeed withdraw his candidacy. However, days after that announcement, Bong Go has not formally filed for his candidacy withdrawal.
The Commission of Elections (Comelec) stated that although the Senator has already announced this, he needs to formalize it. Based on the report from ABS-CBN News, Go stressed that what he would what he stated regarding his backing out of the presidential race.
“Nakapagsalita na po ako at firm ang aking desisyon tungkol dyan. Nagkausap na kami ng Pangulong Duterte at siya mismo nirerespeto desisyon,” the lawmaker said. Reportedly, there were those who criticized him because of his announcement but he has not done anything yet.
Go is accused of just using his “supposed” withdrawal as a political strategy to be beneficial for his candidacy. However, the Senator said that he will retract his COC on the day that he will choose.
“Wala naman pilitan kung kailan ko gusto pumunta ng Comelec. Pwedeng sa susunod na linggo, pwedeng sa susunod na buwan. Wala naman pong deadline sa pag withdraw,” Bong Go said.
Previously, Go was asked if who among the presidential candidates he will support after he backed out, he said that he will wait for the decision of the Chief Executive.
