LTO Speaks on CDE Certificate Requirement for Driver’s License Renewal

CDE Certificate of Completion Required in LTO Driver’s License Renewal

LTO – The Land Transportation Office spoke on the CDE certificate of completion requirement in renewing a driver’s license.

In the Philippines, the license-giving body for those who want to drive road vehicles is the Land Transportation Office. It issues student permits for first-time applicants. The next step is the application for non-professional or professional licenses depending on the vehicle that the applicant is planning to drive.

In applying for a student permit, non-professional license, or professional license, the requirements include medical tests, seminar or driving school enrollment and test completion, practical driving completion, and passing the examination.

Currently, the new driver’s licenses are valid for five (5) years in other parts of the country except for Metro Manila. The driver’s licenses issued in the capital region are valid for ten (10) years under the Republic Act No. 10930.

Before or on the expiry date of the driver’s license, the holder must renew it. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, LTO has added a requirement in the renewal of the driver’s license – a Comprehensive Driver’s Education (CDE) program completion.

According to the report, LTO will offer the CDE program for free to drivers and it includes modules. Renewal applicants must pass the evaluation test to get a CDE certificate of completion which is needed in renewing their license. It is in line with the pursuit of the office to keep the roads safe for everyone.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar C. Galvante said that drivers who have adequate knowledge and skills can easily pass the CDE evaluation test. The test includes information on dealing with stress and road rage among motorists.
