Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana Confirms He Tested Positive for COVID-19
DEFENSE SECRETARY DELFIN LORENZANA – The Chief of the Department of National Defense confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19 again.
The threats of the COVID-19 pandemic is still present in the Philippines thus everyone is encouraged to remain extra careful despite the easing of the quarantine measures. Currently, Metro Manila is under localized lockdowns while the whole nation is still under community quarantine measures.
The vaccination against COVID-19 continues in the country. At least 70 million people have to be fully vaccinated to achieve population protection from the virus. The national government has opened the vaccination for the general public after giving priorities to the healthcare workers who are the frontliners in the fight against the pandemic, the senior citizens, and those individuals who have co-morbidities.
The national government continues to encourage the people to get vaccinated as many are still hesitant. The health authorities said that vaccination may not protect you 100% from getting infected but may prevent the worst scenarios.
Recently, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana who is fully vaccinated tested positive for COVID-19 again but he is asymptomatic. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it was last April when he first tested positive for the virus.
The Chief of the Department of National Defense made the confirmation through a text message after he got his swab test result on Wednesday. According to the report, prior to the release of his swab test result, he was able to attend a Senate hearing for the budget of his department in 2022.
Lorenzana was seated behind Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa in the Senate hearing. The Senator defended the proposed budget of his department. The former Philippine National Police (PNP) also tested positive for the virus last year.
According to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, he will be observing himself for several days and he will undergo another swab test.
