7 Cambodian Laborers Died After Drinking Alcohol Given as Disinfectant in Quarantine Camp

Seven workers in Cambodia reportedly passed away after allegedly drinking alcohol, which have been given as a disinfectant.

The Cambodian health ministry reported that seven labourers have been rushed to the hospital after mixing and drinking alcohol with water and soft drinks but eventually died. The victims created the mixture at a coronavirus quarantine camp in Cambodia.

The workers has been placed at a quarantine camp in northwestern Banteay Meanchey province after returning from their trip from Thailand. The workers suffered from headaches, dizziness and difficulty in breathing after drinking the mixture last week.

The medical experts collected the mixture samples and brought them into a laboratory in Phnom Penh for testing. 12 others who drunk the mixture were recuperating at the hospital.

Starting November 30, 2021, Cambodia will start to accept fully-vaccinated foreign tourists and will allow visitors to skip quarantine if they stay at least five days in designated areas.

The Tourism Ministry announced that tourist should stay in areas including two seaside provinces, Sihanoukville and Koh Kong, on the Gulf of Thailand for at least five days.

However, visitors are required to present proof they have been vaccinated and take a COVID-19 rapid test. The foreigners can proceed without quarantine once the results turned negative.

Since the start of the pandemic, Cambodia recorded some 119, 000 coronavirus cases and 2, 856 deaths.
