Cash Aid To Be Distributed to Metro Manila Residents as ECQ Assistance

Update on Cash Aid for Metro Manila Residents for ECQ

CASH AID – The mayors in Metro Manila agreed to distribute assistance to the residents amid the 2-week Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in the form of cash.

The presence of the Delta variant in the Philippines alarmed the government and the people. It became a variant of concern after it sparked a surge in the COVID-19 cases in India leading to the collapse of the country’s healthcare system.

Currently, several nations already including the Philippines confirmed cases of the Delta variant. In PH, the cases were both returning Filipinos and local transmissions. Prior to local transmissions being confirmed in the country, the Department of Health (DOH) stressed the importance of preparation as it is not impossible for the variant to reach the nation.

Hospitals were asked by the local government units (LGUs) to prepare. Undeniably, many hospitals are worried over what the Delta variant may cause to the healthcare system.

As part of the efforts to stop the spread of the Delta variant in PH, the national government approved placing Metro Manila under a two-week Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). It is the strictest among the quarantine measures.

The 2-week ECQ will be from August 6 to August 20. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the mayors in Metro Manila agreed that the assistance that will be extended to some residents will be in the form of a cash aid.

According to Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro, they have already talked together with the other local chief executives and they came up with a common decision to give cash aid to the people. He called on the national government to let the LGUs finalize the list of the recipients of the cash aid.

“Ang ikinababahala ko ‘yung mga nadagdag. Maraming mas naging mahirap ngayon dahil sa paulit-ulit at mahabang ECQ na nangyayari,” Mayor Teodoro expressed.
