Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Speaks on Democracy, Electing Leaders
ISKO MORENO – The Manila Mayor expressed his belief that a position is not inherited in a democratic type of government.
Undeniably, the so-called “election fever” can already be felt now – several months away from the next election in the Philippines. There are already a lot of surveys done on who might possibly run for president in the next election.
Among the names that are usually on survey results are Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. Both mayors have a lot of supporters that want each of them to take the political race.
As for Mayor Moreno, he recently affirmed that he is definitely running in the 2022 Elections. Meanwhile, he remains consistent on focusing on the present problems now.

There are a lot of speculations that presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will run for president in the 2022 Elections. Previously, the Davao City Mayor has put down the speculations. Her father, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, also showed support on her decision.

However, recently, there were some events that ignited the speculations that Mayor Inday Sara is decided to take on the presidential race. Meanwhile, she has yet to confirm or spoke about it again.
Amid the election fever in the Philippines now, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno stressed his belief that in a democratic government, position is not inherited. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Manila City Mayor expressed that he does not want to pre-empt the Filipino people but he does not want the people to be called negatively in the end.
“Hindi ako naniniwala na ang posisyon sa gobyerno minamana, in a democratic government. Ang demokrasya ang taong bayan ang pumipili hindi ipinipilit iyong mga kalahi niya pagkatapos niya na,” Mayor Isko said.
On the part of Mayor Duterte, former Camarines Sur Representative Rolando Andaya Jr. stressed that the Davao City Mayor has her own person and she is not like the President. He said she is different and she is a “vitamin-fortified Duterte”.
