Vice Ganda reaffirms her support for politician Leni Robredo.
ABS-CBN star Vice Ganda is still hoping that Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo will run for president in the 2028 national elections.
Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo ruled out running for president in the 2028 elections despite the massive calls for her to run again. She set the record straight and clarified that she will not seek a national position in the upcoming election.
“Aware naman ako na may mga gusto pang tumakbo ako… Ngayon, malayo na sa horizon ko. Malayo na sa horizon ko na babalik pa ako sa national,” the Naga mayor said.
However, she has names of politicians that, for her, have great potential to be good leaders, like Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte. For her, they are capable.
Despite the clarification, Vice Ganda, one of those who openly supported her and actively campaigned for her during the last election, reaffirmed her support for the mayor. According to the ABS-CBN star, she is still rooting for Robredo to run for president in the 2028 national elections.
Vice added that a deeper sense of purpose often guides decisions to run for public office. She said that there were people who gave in to public clamor and their desire to serve because running is no longer for themselves; it’s for a greater purpose.
“Marami namang nagsabi na kung sila lang, hindi na sila tatakbo, pero dahil sa clamor at sa kagustuhan nilang makapagsilbi. Kasi ang desisyon ng pagtakbo at pagiging pangulo ay hindi naman desisyon para sa sarili. Kaya maraming tao ang naiiba ’yung desisyon nila kasi nare-realize nilang this is not just about me,” she said.
Meanwhile, Robredo is now serving as the mayor of Naga City after her stint as the country’s vice president ended. She lost in the 2022 elections to current President Bongbong Marcos.
