Thousands of Residents Evacuates as Tropical Storm Dante Looms, Albay Safety Chief Says

Albay Safety Chief said that thousands of residents have leave their homes and move to evacuation centers due to Tropical Storm Dante.

On Wednesday (June 2, 2021), Albay public safety and emergency management office chief Cedric Daep said that thousands of residents in the province have evacuate as tropical storm Dante draw near.

Daep said that the evacuation center could only accommodate half of its full capacity because evacuees have to observe the health protocols. The residents from the same village have been placed at the same facility.

The town started the evacuation on Tuesday afternoon (June 1, 2021). He also said that the evacuees might decamp but they are still monitoring the current weather condition to ensure the safety of the residents before returning to their respective homes.

“Sa ngayon baka mag-decamp sila. Titingnan pa namin ang next (weather) bulletin kung talagang safe na ang province of Albay,” Daep said.

The provincial government of Sorsogon also suspended the work and operations in malls. Residents are also prohibited to visit malls.

Dante is the fourth storm to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this year. It is expected to make a third landfall over Romblon and Oriental Mindoro. The storm would maintain its strength until it make another landfall before weakening into a tropical depression.
