Bishop Calls Out Roque For “Un-Christian” Remark

Bishop Calls Out Roque For Saying Questions About His Hospitalization Were “Un-Christian”

BISHOP CALLS OUT ROQUE – Manila Bishop Broderick Pabillo called out Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque for his recent statements.

Amid the lack of bed space in hospitals, Roque managed to secure a spot for himself after his COVID-19 re-infection. However, there were already reports of patients dying while waiting for admission.

Due to this, Roque was asked how he managed to secure his spot despite these reports. But, instead of answering, Roque hits the reporter back saying his questions were “un-Christian”.

Ang aking assurance lang, sa panahon ni President Duterte, lahat ng mayroong pangangailangang medikal, mabibigyan ng tulong“, said Roque. Furthermore, Roque declined to answer where he got admitted. Likewise, the Department of Health also declined to comment on the alleged prioritization of the Presidential Spokesman.

When asked about the issue, DOH Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire said “For this, please forgive me I’m not going to comment on this but as I’ve said, we have protocols in our system“.

Although Roque declined to answer where he was confined, reports from ABS-CBN say that he was seen in the Philippine General Hospital.

Meanwhile, Pabillo said there was nothing “un-Christian” about the questions directed toward Roque. Furthermore, he emphasized that officials must answer the public with transparency. During an interview with ABS-CBN, Pabillo said:

“It was uncalled for na bansagan mo ang mga taong nagtatanong nang maayos naman at legitimate naman ang question. Hindi. Papaano naging ‘un-Christian’ ‘yun? It was an innocent question”

Moreover, he noted that the problem with public figures is responding with ad hominem whenever they’re asked legitimate questions. “Sa halip na sagutin ang tanong… titirahin ang nagtatanong“, he added.
