JUST IN: PHIVOLCS Raises Taal Volcano Alert Status To Alert Level 2

PHIVOLCS Releases Bulletin Over Taal Volcano Alert Status

PHIVOLCS – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised the Taal Volcano alert status to alert level 2.

The Philippines is one of the countries across the globe with several volcanoes, a mountain or hill which has a crater that can release lava and rock fragments.

Those volcanoes that emit lava are usually considered as active volcanoes. There are several active volcanoes in the country including the Taal Volcano located in Batangas.

A volcanic activity may bring harm to the people living near the area. In the Philippines, it is the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or more commonly called as PHIVOLCS that monitors volcanic activities.

Recently, PHIVOLCS released a bulletin regarding the alert status of the Taal Volcano in Batangas. The state seismologists raised the alert status to alert level 2 due to the “uncreasing unrest”.

According to the institution, there were four (4) low-frequency volcanic earthquakes, 28 volcanic tremor episodes, and one hybrid quake at a depth of less than 1.5 kilometers.

Furthermore, PHIVOLCS noted an increase in the seismic energy of the volcanic tremors compared to the previous records. Since the start of the increased activity last February 13, a total number of 866 volcanic tremor events was recorded.

According to the state seismologists, there is an increased magnetic and hydrothermal activity at shallow depths based on the seismic activities last February. Here is the bulletin announcing the changing of the alert status of Taal Volcano from alert level 1 or low level of unrest to alert level 2 or increasing unrest.
