Sia’s ‘Music’ received negative comments from the autism community. They were against the singer’s casting of a neurotypical person. The new film also features a scene where Maddie’s character is physically restrained and it is something that medical experts do not agree with.
On Thursday, February 4, netizens discovered that Sia was no longer on the social media platform, Twitter. Based on a report from Pop Crush, ‘Music’ will now have a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie.
Prior to her account’s deactivation, Sia Tweeted: “I promise, have been listening. The motion picture Music will, moving forward, have this warning at the head of the movie.”
“Music in no way condones or recommends the use of restraint on autistic people. There are autistic occupational therapists that specialize in sensory processing who can be consulted to explain safe ways to provide proprioceptive, deep-pressure feedback to help [with] meltdown safety.”
The singer-songwriter also revealed that the scene where Maddie was restraint will be removed. She said, “I plan to remove the restraint scenes from all future printings.”
“I listened to the wrong people and that is my responsibility, my research was clearly not thorough enough, not wide enough,” she added.
The movie is set to release at select IMAX theaters on Feb. 10 and will be available on-demand on Feb 12.
