Here’s what Lala Sotto said following It’s Showtime’s recent controversy.
Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chairperson Lala Sotto-Antonio has this to say about “It’s Showtime.”
Based on a previous article, ABS-CBN superstar Vice Ganda and the producers of It’s Showtime were summoned by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) due to the controversial jokes made in their famous “Memerimar” skit in the noontime show.
The MTRCB has reportedly received multiple complaints over the program’s July 24, 2026 episode, which contained allegedly inappropriate scenes and racially insensitive and colorist remarks.
Recently, the MTRCB met with representatives of the noontime show, along with their legal counsels and officials from the program’s partner networks, to discuss the complaints. Speaking after the meeting, Sotto described the dialogue as orderly and productive, saying both sides were given the opportunity to present their respective positions.
She then further stressed that while the MTRCB is firm in enforcing the provisions of Presidential Decree No. 1986, she appreciated the program’s willingness to cooperate throughout the proceedings.
Sotto also acknowledged the immediate apology issued by Vice. She commended the show’s humility in addressing viewers’ concerns.
Moreover, the MTRCB chair also denied claims of unfair treatment toward It’s Showtime, saying that all TV programs under the agency’s jurisdiction are treated equally regardless of network.
“Kapag nagkakamali ang kahit na anong show, including Eat Bulaga!. Sila ay mas madalas pang mapatawag at mas madalas pang nakakausap ng MTRCB, sa totoo lang,” she explained.
She shared that several noontime programs, including Eat Bulaga, Sigabo, and Willie Revillame’s show have also been coordinating with the agency and participating in compliance initiatives.
