ABS-CBN Franchise Issue “Best Left To Next Congress”, Says Alvarez

House franchise panel chair says that the ABS-CBN franchise issue will be best left on to the next congress.

ABS-CBN FRANCHISE ISSUE – Chair of House franchise panel Franz Alvarez said that issue about ABS-CBN will be best addressed in the next Congress.

What’s been heartbreaking for many people last year is the shut down of the biggest television network in the country, the ABS-CBN. Many people lost their source of news and entertainment but since social media was born, the network can still reach their loyal viewers through it.

Aside from A2Z channel carrying out some of their programs, they also recently announced partnership with TV5 which allowed “ASAP Natin ‘To” and “FPJ: Da King” to be aired in the Kapatid network. Maja SalvadorBilly CrawfordPiolo Pascual, and many others have also transferred to the Kapatid network.

And now, with the franchise issue still lingering and some senators pushing through to change the network’s fate by giving them the franchise, House committee on legislative franchises chair Franz Alvarez believed otherwise.

On Thursday, he said that the franchise issue is best to be left to the next Congress. Accordingly, there is a rule that one of 70 who voted to junk their franchise bid must file a motion for reconsideration on behalf of ABS-CBN. This is to challenge the committee but no one did, thus, the decision has been finalized.

Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos-Recto and Senate President Vicente Sotto both III filed a bill in sought to give the network a fresh franchise. To recall, the franchise of the network expired last May 4, 2020. This caused them to went off the air the following day after the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued a cease and desist order.
