Inside Matet de Leon’s Childhood Discipline Moments With Superstar Mom Nora Aunor
MATET DE LEON – Actress Matet de Leon shared both painful and heartwarming memories that revealed a different side of Nora Aunor as a parent.
Actress Matet de Leon opened up about her childhood memories involving her late mother, National Artist Nora Aunor, during an interview with veteran journalist Kara David. She shared how her upbringing was both strict and loving, reflecting her mother’s dual nature as a disciplined parent and a caring figure.
Matet admitted she was among her siblings who often tested boundaries, which led to stricter treatment from her mother. Despite the strict discipline, she emphasized that Nora Aunor treated all her children with equal love and made efforts to compensate through memorable experiences and special moments.
Matet recalled one specific incident from her childhood where she experienced her mother’s strict form of discipline. She said:
“Ako talaga pinakasutil niya in many ways. Pinalo ako ni mommy once kasi nagmura ako sa school – ng prep, akalain mo yun!? So, pag-uwi ko sa bahay, meron siyang ruler, pinalo ako sa pwet.
“Tapos, pinaluhod niya ako, ganu’n siya, e, more on paluhod. ‘Lumuhod ka! Mag-sorry ka sa ginawa mo.’ So, more on ganu’n. So, ako talaga yung pinakasakit talaga ng ulo, malala,” she said.
Despite the strictness, Matet also highlighted the loving side of Nora Aunor, especially through her efforts to make up for lost time and create special memories for her children. She shared:
“When she has time naman, babawi talaga siya. Nagpasara siya ng amusement park, sa Fiesta Carnival. Pinasara niya yan.
“Hindi pa uso ang block screening, pinasara niya sa Virra Mall. Manonood kami ng Terminator 2. Last full show pero kami lang (na pamilya),” said Matet.
She also expressed her honest feelings about growing up with a superstar mother who was often away due to work commitments. Matet said:
“Actually, hindi ko type kasi laging wala si mommy. Lagi siyang wala, lagi siyang nasa ibang bansa. Although, meron siyang pinapakausapan to take care of us – another national artist (si Ricky Lee).
“Mahal na mahal rin kami ni Tito Ricky. Mahal na mahal din namin siya so a few times a week, he would go to our house and take care of us.
“Kukumustahin niya kami, but then iba pa rin siyempre yung nanay ko nandoon. Medyo hindi namin siya nakakasama madalas,” she said.
