LYRA CONSTELLATION – In this topic, we are going to know and learn about the northern constellation Lyra, the Lyre.

It is a constellation in the northern sky and represents the lyre, a musical instrument with strings used in antiquity and later times.

It is associated with the myth of the Greek musician and poet Orpheus. Orpheus was killed and his lyre was thrown into a river, Zeus sent an eagle to get the lyre.

It houses the fifth brightest star in the sky and second brightest star in the northern hemisphere, Vega; as well as he globular cluster Messier 56, the Ring Nebula, NGC 6745, NGC 6791.

It is the 52nd constellation in the night sky and occupies 286 square degrees. It lies in NQ4, the fourth quadrant of the northern hemisphere. 

It belonged to the Hercules family, along with Aquila, Ara, Centaurus, Corona Australis, Corvus, Crater, Crux, Cygnus, Hercules, Hydra, Lupus, Ophiuchus, Sagitta, Scutum, Sextans, Serpens, Triangulum Australe and Vulpecula.
