The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reported that a participant of a local contingent for the Sinulog 2021 grand parade undergone a swab test and quickly isolated after showing COVID-like symptoms.
EOC deputy chief implementor Councilor Joel Garganera reported that there will be at least 90 close contacts from the contingent alone if the participant tests positive for the coronavirus disease. He is planning to require the participants of all contingents for swab testing.
Garganera said that the immediate swabbing of participants would the Cebu City government to detect transmissions even before the contacts show symptoms. He also advised Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama to reconsider allowing the contingents from performing live.
“Di gyod kalikayan nga ang mga participants grabe ang engagement during practice. Nya muuli pa na sila. How are we sure mouli na sila diretso?” Garganera said.
The EOC head said that live performances could contribute to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 to the other contingents. Meanwhile, the city is still waiting for Interagency Task Force’s permission to pursue the grand parade.
