EQUULEUS CONSTELLATION – In this topic, we are going to know and learn about the constellation Equuleus, the Little Horse.

It is a constellation in the northern sky. It means “little horse” or “foal” in Latin. It is associated with several Greek mythology, among them include the one about Hippe, the daughter of the centaur Chiron and the nymph Chariclo.

Hippe was seduced by Aeolus and bore his child. Ashamed, she hid the pregnancy from Chiron. When Chiron came looking for Hippe, she prayed to the gods that he doesn’t find her and they turned her into a mare

The constellation is also known as Equus Primus, or the First Horse, because it rises before the constellation Pegasus. It houses NGC 7015, NGC 7040, NGC 7046, NGC 7045

It is the second smallest constellation in the night sky and occupies only 72 square degrees. It lies in NQ4, the fourth quadrant of the northern hemisphere. It belongs to the Heavenly Waters family, along with Carina, Columba, Delphinus, Eridanus, Piscis Austrinus, Puppis, Pyxis, and Vela.
