Pres. Duterte Places Several Areas Under GCQ for January 2021

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte announced the new community quarantine measures set for January 2021.

Although it is holiday season now, everyone is reminded to be extra careful and to avoid the crowded places. It is because the threat of the COVID-19 is still present and there are still new cases daily.

Philippines which has one of the longest celebrations of the Christmas season has cases of coronavirus. Amid the fight against the pandemic, the wearing of face mask and the practice of social distancing became part of the protocols.

Currently, several areas in the country are under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) for December 2020. These include the whole of Metro Manila.

Unfortunately, amid the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, a new variant of the virus was detected in the United Kingdom. Many countries including the Philippines were quick to ban travelers from U.K.

Amid the ban due to the threat of the mutated strain of coronavirus, the President wants to exempt Filipinos who are based in U.K. and wants to go home to the Philippines.

Recently, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte announced the new community quarantine measures set for January 2021. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the entire Metro Manila remains under GCQ.

According to the report, there are several areas that will be under GCQ, the third strictest quarantine measure, until January 31. Here is a list of those that will be under GCQ:

  • Metro Manila
  • Isabela
  • Santiago City
  • Batangas
  • Iloilo
  • Tacloban City
  • Lanao del Sur
  • Iligan City
  • Davao City
  • Davao del Norte

The rest of the country will be under a Modified GCQ. The President clarified that the new quarantine measures are subject for changes in case there are appeals from the local government.
