Funeral Postponed Due to Severe Flooding in Romblon
A family in Santa Fe, Romblon, was forced to postpone the funeral of a loved one due to the massive flooding caused by continuous rainfall.
The deceased, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, was supposed to be laid to rest on Saturday (August 8, 2026). However, rising floodwaters brought by persistent rains prevented the family from proceeding with the burial as planned.
According to relatives, safety was their main concern. With floodwaters affecting the area and weather conditions remaining unstable, they decided to delay the funeral until the situation improves.
The remains of their loved ones continue to be kept in the wake while the family waits for safer conditions.
The postponement shows the challenges many residents in Romblon are currently facing as days of rainfall continue to affect communities across the province. The weather disturbance, associated with the southwest monsoon or habagat, has brought heavy rains that have led to flooding in several areas.
Among the affected locations is the campus of the Romblon National Institute of Technology in Alcantara, where floodwaters inundated parts of the school grounds. Several roads in the municipality were also submerged, making travel difficult for residents and motorists.
Flooding was also reported on roads near the Municipal Hall of Alcantara, adding to the disruptions caused by the bad weather. Residents in low-lying areas have been closely monitoring water levels as the rain continues.
