Tuguegarao City Suspends Relief Operations Due to Increasing Cases of COVID-19

Tuguegarao City temporarily suspends the relief operations in the town until December 21 due to the increasing cases of COVID-19.

On Wednesday (December 16, 2020), Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano announced the suspension of relief operations for the victims of severe flooding last November 2020. The announcement came after the COVID-19 cases in the town increase.

The City Mayor also reported that the residents were allegedly violating the health protocols and quarantine guidelines during the relief operation. The relief ops suspension would last until December 21, 2020 or until the infection is controlled.

Previously, Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba recommends to place Tuguegarao City under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ). Unfortunately, the government declined the request and give the decision to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

If the COVID-19 cases continue to increase, Tuguegarao City will be placed under MECQ to control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Governor Rodolfo Albano III also recommended to place Isabela under General Community Quarantine, which was eventually grant.

Isabela, Tuguegarao City and some parts of Cagayan have experience severe flooding due to the effects of Typhoon Ulysses last month.
