Inmate Teacher Offers Free Online Classes to Student While Serving Term Inside Jail
An inmate teacher is giving free online classes to help the school children with their lesson while he is serving his term in San Juan City Jail.
The 46-year-old inmate identified as Robert is a licensed teacher who is currently serving his term inside San Juan City Jail. He decided to rekindle his passion for teaching by giving free online tutorials to students.
Teacher Robert is conducting tutorial sessions online under the “Karunungan sa Kulungan Project” of San Juan City Jail. He usually teach the children of his fellow inmates every Sunday via Zoom application.
The inmate teacher is following DepEd’s Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) and trying to reach out kids aging four to seven years old. Currently, Robert has four students with the help of DepEd San Juan Mrs. Hergielyn M. Gaca.
Aside from free online tutorials, San Juan City Jail Warden Jose Marie Sabeniano is distributing free school supplies for the students. Sabeniano also praised Robert for his dedication in teaching.

“Iyong sense of purpose nya, nakita nya sa loob ng kulungan. na kahit nakakulong, magagawa pa rin natin makabuluhan ang buhay habang may natutulungan,” Sabeniano said.
