DILG Wants Hotlines to Report Mass Gathering, Protocols Violations

DILG Order to Provide Hotlines to Report Health Protocol Violations

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged officials to provide hotlines to report the health protocol violations in their area.

DILG has ordered local government units and Philippine National Police (PNP) officials to have hotlines where the public can report violations of videoke / karaoke and mass gathering, which is ban during this holiday season.

DILG Undersecretary Epimaco Densing II stated that the LGUs and PNP must strictly enforce the ban on mass gathering and videoke / karaoke sessions. He also said that officials must always be ready to respond to complaints received.

“They also have to be ready to respond whenever they receive reports of mass gatherings happening. Video and karaoke are strictly prohibited because it has been proven that these activities can spread the virus,” said Usec. Densing during the press briefing.

Densing also revealed that last month he instructed the PNP to monitor social media for violations of the quarantine rules. The DILG clarified that a family’s karaoke sessions are allowed inside their own home, but neighbors cannot be invited.

Malaya reminded videoke and karaoke bars are still not allowed to operate in areas under general community quarantine. According to a previous article, loud singing is one of the strongest possibility to spread the virus, so it is not encouraged during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We highly discourage your public karaoke. But if you have two or three in your house and you have karaoke in your home, we think there is nothing wrong with that,” Usec Jonathan Malaya clarified.
