Health Secretary Francisco Duque III advised in a video message to use other alternatives for firecrackers such as drums and vehicle horns. He also discourages the use of toy trumpets as it may cause possible transmission amid the pandemic.

According to DOH Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje, the public should still wear face masks even during Christmas Eve celebration and also in New Year’s countdown gathering.

“Huwag po tayong gagamit ng pampaingay na gumagamit sa bibig that will cause the tranfer of saliva,” Cabotaje said during the press briefing.

Kailangan naka-mask pa rin at nagsosocial diatancing,” she added.

Meanwhile, the DOH has released “Seven Popular Fireworks Alternatives” this New Year. The advised to pot beating, drum beating, horn, shaking the coin bank, tambourine, and lighting of glow sticks.

Titled as ‘Tuloy Ang Paskong Pinoy’, the DOH’s Christmas campaign this year included a sub-campaign addressing the threat of COVID-19 transmission amid the yuletide season, the ‘BIDA sa Pagdiriwang’.
