According to GMA News, initial probe shows that the incident took place in Barangay San Vicente at about 9:30 AM.

The ambulance came from Gubat, Sorsogon and was heading for Bulacan when a ten-wheeler delivery van, which came from Manila and was heading to Naga City swerved into the opposite lane.

Both of the front parts of the vehicles were wrecked due to the impact of the collision. The ambulance driver and another companion seated in front were killed on the spot.

The Tigkawaya Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) personnel and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that the rescue operation was difficult as the victims were pinned between the steel frames of the ambulance.

Also killed in the collision were a child, who died at the Maria L. Eleazar Memorial District Hospital, together with another passenger of the ambulance.

One woman from the ambulance is in critical condition, while the other two gained injuries and are being treated in the hospital.

The delivery van was at fault since it strayed into the opposite lane, causing the accident, according to the Tagkawayan Municipal Police Station officials.

The truck driver, however, claimed that it was the ambulance that strayed into his lane. He then apologized to the families of those who were killed. Investigations are still ongoing.
