Some Funds Under Bayanihan 2 Slashed to Smaller Amounts – Imee Marcos

IMEE MARCOS – Senator Imee Marcos disclosed that some funds under the proposed Bayanihan to Recover as One Act or the Bayanihan 2 bill was slashed.

The Bayanihan to Heal as One act lapsed on June 25. The law granted President Rodrigo Roa Duterte additional authority to fight coronavirus pandemic in the Philippines. Senator Sonny Angara proposed the second emergency law the “Bayanihan to Recover as One” bill or the “Bayanihan 2.”

The country has incurred trillions of foreign debts as it fights with COVID-19 pandemic. Almost half of Pinoy adults are unemployed due to the severe economic crisis.

Based on a report from Inquirer, Senator Imee Marcos disclosed that some of the funds under ‘Bayanihan 2’ have been slashed to smaller amounts. “Napakakuripot nitong budget na to. Hirap na hirap kami. There’s too little to fight over because it’s simply impossible to accommodate everyone’s request,” she said.

Aside from helping the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will also allocate funds to assist the sectors to cope up with the impact of the health crisis. Senators agreed on P162 billion. However, only 140 billion is readily available.

Sen. Imee Marcos said the fund will have “very little left to give away to the tourism sector, transportation groups, of course, our health workers, which the President has promised P15,000 per head, our students, most of our OFWs.”

According to the report, Marcos is the P15 billion was initially set aside for the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) and cash-for-work program under the Senate version was trimmed down to P5 billion.

“Napakapayat, naghahanap pa rin kami. Lahat nagdadaing na. There are horrific projectuions for OFWs, hundreds of thousands are coming back jobless,” Marcos said.

Based on the report, Sen. Imee Marcos said the Department of Transportation’s 17 billion was slashed to P6 billion.
