Ralph Recto Urges BuCor to Show Evidence to Prove Death of Deceased Inmates Due to COVID-19
Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto is urging the Bureau of Corrections to show photos of deceased inmates as proof of death.
The lawmaker wants BuCor to consider of showing photos of the dead inmates to the Department of Justice to disclose the doubts of the public regarding the unexpected demise of the detainees.
Recto made the statement after the public questioned the untimely death of the high-profile inmates due to the coronavirus disease. Most of the inmates are drug lords who were convicted due to the proliferation of illegal drugs.
“Show them to the Justice Secretary—and the death certificates and medical records of deceased high-profile drug lords—and all the conspiracy theories in this land, where weaving them is a national hobby, will be buried,” Recto said.
The 56-year-old politician that it would be better if they could provide a CCTV footage showing the remains of the inmates being brought out of the jail cell. He told BuCor to submit the evidence to DOJ.

Initially, BuCor Director General Gerald Bantag refused to reveal the name of the nine inmates who reportedly died due to the coronavirus disease saying that they were prohibited to provide information.
However, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon opposed the BuCor director and explained that transparency is an effective mechanism to guard against abuses or fake deaths.
