ABS-CBN Frequencies: Solon files resolution to use for distance learning

Solon files resolution seeking ABS-CBN frequencies to be used for distance learning

Deputy Speaker LRay Villafuerte filed a resolution that recommends that ABS-CBN frequencies, both on TV and radio, will be used by the education department for distance learning.

Amid the health crisis in the Philippines, the education department has suffered also. Regular school schedules were not followed in order to ensure the safety of the students as swell as of the educators and personnel in schools.

Previously, the Department of Education already stated that the classes would resume in August but this does not mean that there will be a face-to-face meeting. In line with this problem, the education department has been exploring options in order to sustain the educational needs of the students amid the pandemic.

With regard to this, Deputy Speaker LRay Villafuerte made an initiative to file the House Resolution (HR) No. 1044, based on the report of ABS-CBN correspondent RG Cruz.

The lawmaker said that this is intended to “exhausting all possible delivery modes such as the use of untapped television and radio frequencies as those vacated by ABS-CBN is important in keeping students engaged.”

He added that the unused ABS-CBN frequencies are being recommended to be used to disseminate information about the COVID-19 such as its “prevention and control, risk reduction, and preparedness.”

Based on the report, Villafuerte was one of the 70 congressmen who voted to junk the franchise application of ABS-CBN. He said that the decision they made was “tough and difficult”.

It will be recalled that that only 11 lawmakers supported the TV network’s franchise renewal and they are being hailed now as “brave” congressmen by the supporters of the network.
