Palace Tells Trillanes There’s No Need to Appoint Leni Robredo In COVID-19 IATF
TRILLANES – Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque told former Senator Antonio Trillanes there is no need to appoint Vice President Leni Robredo in COVID-19 IATF.
Malacañang Palace spokesman Harry Roque advised Vice President Leni Robredo to offer a solution instead of criticizing the government’s efforts to bring the stranded individuals to their homes. “I just wish the Vice President could actually offer solutions,” he said.
Roque’s remarks against Robredo elicited a reaction from former senator Antonio Trillanes IV. The staunchest critic of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte asked the spokesperson if he was just turning blind eye to Robredo’s initiative amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Antonio Trillanes dared Malacañang Palace to appoint Leni Robredo as the chief of COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF). He said that the country’s virus response would be more effective if Robredo lead the agency.
“If Malacanang really wants to flatten the curve, then it should appoint Vice President Robredo to be the IATF chair…Kung si Vice President Leni ang mamumuno at magpapatakbo ng IATF, mas marami itong magagawa at siguradong mas maganda ang kampanya natin laban sa COVID-19,” Trillanes said.
On Friday, June 19, Harry Roque responded to Antonio Trillanes’ statement. Based on a report from Inquirer, the Presidential spokesperson said there is no need to appoint Leni Robredo as the head of IATF because she has been “helping in her own ways.”
The former law professor said the former senator was only making an issue. He said “let us not make an issue when there is none… my remarks that Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo could have offered solutions is simply a response to a specific question by the media.”
“We reiterate this to the Vice President: If she could offer solutions on how to address those who earlier tested negative for COVID-19 in Metro Manila but tested positive once they reached their respective provinces, I would be more than willing to submit her proposed solutions to the Inter-Agency Task Force,” he added.
According to the report, Harry Roque rejected Antonio Trillanes’ the dare. He calls on the former lawmaker not to twist his statement about Robredo just to gain political traction.
“We call on Mr. Trillanes not to twist my statement for the sake of political relevance and just do his share to alleviate the plight of our people amid this pandemic. It is only through our solidarity and cooperation can we heal and recover as one,” said Roque.
VP Robredo team up with public sectors to raise millions of pesos to provide the needs of COVID-19 frontliners.
