Duterte was asked to include barangay captains and councilors in SAP distribution
SAP Distribution – The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) asked President Rodrigo Duterte to include barangay captains as well as councilors in the distribution of cash aid from the social amelioration program.
This program of the government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance to poor families during the lockdown. Although there have been some reported anomalies, authorities are trying to address these kinds of issues.
In an interview on Dobol B sa News TV on Wednesday, LPP President Marinduque Governor Presbitero Velasco Jr. appealed to the Chief Executive to include barangay captains and councilors also in the SAP beneficiaries.
Velasco said that these officials of the barangay are qualified under the new memorandum of the DSWD but he stressed that unfortunately this was not what happened.
“Hinihiling po natin kay Pangulong Duterte na isama po ito at ipasok naman po ito doon sa Memorandum Circular No. 14 ng DSWD,” the Governor said.
According to him, these local officials were “waitlisted” and “left out” beneficiaries, based on the report from GMA News Online. The Governor also said that government personnel are rightful beneficiaries also of cash aid if they only receive an allowance which is lower than the maximum amount that should be given for their job.
The LPP President also pointed out that those who are not under the Salary Standardization Law are also deserving beneficiaries, as what was stated in the memorandum. “Kailangan pong klaruhin talaga ng DSWD,” he stressed.
Based on the report, the government allotted a budget of P200 billion for the SAP distribution. Under the said program, low-income families will be given P5,000 to P8,000 cash aid per month for two months.
