Sandro Marcos shared his thoughts on what happened to the Uniteam
House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos revealed a conversation that had transpired before the 2022 campaign had officially started.
In an August 8, 2026 interview, Marcos candidly admitted that regarding the Uniteam’s breakup, he “kinda saw it coming.” The alliance previously secured the landslide 2022 election victory for his father, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and Vice President Sara Duterte.
Marcos expressed sadness over the split, attributing the collapse to an ongoing political power struggle among various factions surrounding the administration, based on the report from Manila Bulletin.
“Obviously, nakakalungkot. Hindi lang dahil nagkahiwalay yung UniTeam, but because of what came after that. Yung gulo sa politika,” Congressman Sandor Marcos said.
He added that As he always say, when there is political turmoil, there would be less time to work, and that Filipinos can certainly see that happening.
To illustrate that friction existed before the coalition even formalized, Rep. Marcos revealed details of a pre-2022 election meeting at Malacañang. PBBM intended to seek an endorsement from the previous administration but was instead met by three individuals.
One individual, who is a sitting government official today, stressed that they would only support the elder Marcos under strict conditions.
“There’s was one person who is a sitting official now, hindi ko na lang sasabihin. “And sinabi niya kay Pangulo [President Marcos], ‘Sige, suportahan ka namin on the condition that kami ang mamimili ng ES (executive secretary), kami mamimili ng Speaker, kami mamimili ng Senate President, kami mamimili ng secretary…’ Basta marami silang hiningi,” the representative said.
Cong. Sandro Marcos said that President Bongbong Marcos declined the offer, and he recalled, “And then when we left the Palace, tumingin ang tatay ko sa akin. ‘Alam mo, kulang na lang papatayin na nila ako.'”
