The cop was identified as Police Staff Sergeant Miguel Perez of Negros Occidental Police Office, according to an articvle from Panay News.

Bacolod City Police Office Station 4 commander Major Charles Gever said that the probe on the ambush will be guided by the said motives.

Perez was aboard his Toyota Wigo and was on his way home when he was ambushed in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.

Gever said that Perez did not receive any threats to his life before the incident. The cop was armed with a service firearm during the ambush. However, he failed to return fire against the suspects as they were hidden in the tall grass.

Based on the report, retrieved from the incident were empty shells of a 5.56-caliber assault rifle. Probers also counted 20 bullet holes from the victim’s vehicle.

Gever added that he got out of his vehicle and ran on foot to his friend’s house which is 150 meters away from the crime scene. He is already recovering at a hospital in the city after receiving a lone gunshot wound on the left shoulder.
