Duterte Calls Out DOH On Cash Aid Issue For Health Care Workers

DUTERTE CALLS OUT DOH – President Rodrigo Duterte gave Health Secretary Francisco Duque III 24 hours to find a team to prioritize cash distribution to health care workers.

As the Philippines was hit with the coronavirus, Duterte called on the help of medical workers. Naturally, due to the risks involved in their line of work, he promised them extra compensation.

However, thousands of workers were left dismayed due to not receiving their cash assistance. Moreover, the President assured medical workers who have died or got infected with COVID-19 of cash assistance.

But, several of these people have yet to receive any sort of cash assistance from the government. As such, Duterte issued a directive to the DOH to expedite the release of the cash assistance.

Sadly, after two months since the mandated cash assistance was declared, not a single one of the 32 families have received the assured P1-million financial aid.

According to an article from Sunstar, Duterte stated:

Can you just imagine, two months? Tapos ang (DOH) secretary ang binubugbog araw-araw dahil wala siyang nagawa. Sino pala’ng pagawain ni Duque ito? Ang Bureau of…ano…Sino’ng pagawain nya? Ang pagawain nya yung Department of Health, hindi yung Bureau of Fire

Duterte stated that it was unacceptable to him that not a single family received the cash aid. Afterward he said:

Now, I am asking Secretary Duque to form a new team that would focus on the immediate delivery of the assistance that should be given to those who were…yung namatay tapos yung nagkasakit and I expect it within 24 hours,

As per the article, Senator Bong Go also chimed in on the issue and delivered a privilege speech at the Senate earlier Thursday to echo Duterte’s order.

Moreover, he emphasized that there are several people who would be willing to take on the tasks of DOH personnel who fail to do their duty.
