Leni Robredo Questions True Nature of PH’s Relationship W/ China
LENI ROBREDO – Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday questioned the true nature of the Philippine’s relationship with China.
Recently, the Chinese Embassy released a music video that displays China’s ‘partnership’ with the Philippines. The ‘Iisang Dagat‘ music video drew flak on social media.
Filipino netizens lambasted the iconic singer Imelda Papin for taking part in the music video. In a previous article, she defended herself following the backlash she received.
Jukebox Queen Imelda Papin said ‘Iisang Dagat‘ was a song about unity. She expected that the song would inspire her countrymen amid the pandemic but the netizens took it as an insult instead.
The Chinese government continues to construct facilities in the West Philippine Sea. In a report, China recently launched two new facilities in the disputed waters amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Sunday, April 26, Vice President Leni Robredo questioned China’s friendship with the Philippines during her weekly radio show. She said the Chinese government has “disrespected” the country’s sovereignty.
“Sinasabi natin na kaibigan natin, pero ‘di ba kapag magkaibigan kayo, nagrerespetuhan? Marami silang ginagawa na disrespect sa sovereignty ng bansa natin. So iyong tanong: Iyan ba ang kaibigan?” said Robredo.
According to the report, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) filed a diplomatic protest against the East Asian superpower after it established 2 new facilities in the WPS and pointing a radar gun at Philippine Navy vessel. Leni Robredo lauded the DFA for filing a diplomatic protest.
“Sana mas maging consistent tayo na kung may kasalanan na ginagawa sa atin, iparamdam natin iyong pagprotesta natin para respetuhin tayo…”
“Sa akin lang, sa gitna ba naman ng trahedya, naiisip pa nilang gawin iyong pag-violate sa ating territorial boundaries,” she added.
In a previous article, Senator Risa Hontiveros said China must shoulder the cost of the Philippine’s coronavirus response.
